Missouri High School Football – Week 9 – Ft. Zumwalt West at Hannibal
The regular season schedule concludes Friday when Hannibal hosts the Jaguars of Ft. Zumwalt West from O’Fallon, Mo.
The Pirates and Jaguars are similar in that they win against teams they should and have lost against the really good teams this season.
Hannibal will again be looking to eliminate unforced errors in the form of penalties, and penalties in crucial moments. The defense has established itself as better than average, and this will be a good test.
Fort Zumwalt West is a Class 5 school with a very capable offense. Jr. Clayton O’Bryan is one of the top quarterbacks in the St. Louis area. He is 4th in yards and 3rd in attempts and completions in the metro. The staff believes in his skills and he spreads the ball around effectively. He will try to force the ball into coverage he shouldn’t and that has led to O’B ryan being on of just six St. Louis area QB’s to throw double digit picks.
The Jaguars also have a solid running game. Sr. Jy’Ren Green has rushed for 737 yards and nine touchdowns and is a good check against teams that drop extra men into coverage to create issues for O’Bryan.
The lone opponent these two teams have faced is Troy-Buchanan. The Pirates lost at Troy 35-29 and Ft. Zumwalt lost at Troy a couple weeks ago 34-22.
This is a good tune up with districts starting next week in Missouri. Both the Pirate offense and defense can be really good. It’s time to show that they can put it together and become what they are capable of.
The pregame starts at 6:30p with the kickoff at 7p on 97.9 KICK-FM
