Missouri Football District Championship – Warrenton vs Hannibal
A rematch a year in the making is set up for Friday night in Warrenton as the Warriors get another crack at the Pirates who beat them in the district final last fall 55-32.
Hannibal has ended Warrenton’s season in 2023, ’22 and ’21. The seniors for Warrenton have been building to this since they were freshmen. The Pirates are the next level that the Warriors haven’t been able to achieve. Hannibal has won the district title for the last four years and five of the last six.
The Warrior seniors are undefeated this season at 10-0. They have been easily handling their opposition averaging over 38 points per game and allowing just 12. The Pirates are 8-3 and are averaging 40.5 points per game and allowing only 16. This is what a district championship should be.
The Warrior offense is centered on senior running back Austin Haas. He’s the main weapon. Quarterback, senior Brandon Johnson is egalitarian with his passes. He’ll throw to whomever is open. Shutting down Haas is essential to Hannibal adding hardware to the trophy case.
On defense, the Warriors have a strong line-backing group with seniors Kadin Stroder and Cole Meyer leading the way. Lineman Trevian Guthrie (Sr.) and Javon Jones (Jr.) will test the Pirate O-line, and senior cornerback Austin White has four interceptions this fall. This group knows its strengths and will be ready.
The Pirates will be led by all-time school completions record holder Waylon Anders, running back Mike Ferreira and Darrion Washington, and also Landyn Essig. Tre Hoskins will be involved and should be a matchup problem for Warrenton.
This is the time of the season that the Pirates have been building towards. Warrenton has been building for four years for this game. Don’t miss it.
Pre-game is Friday night at 6:30p with the kickoff at 7p. Bill Shuler will be on the call on 97.9 KICK-FM.
