Local Players Drafted by MLB
Over the past couple days Major League Baseball held its annual draft, and here are all the local players that were drafted by MLB teams!
Cody Birdsong: Birdsong, who was a member of the Quincy Gems baseball team during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, was selected during the 32nd round of the draft. He went as pick number 967 was selected by the Atlanta Braves. According to WGEM Birdsong who was a senior at Quincy University "started all 111 games and finished with a career batting average of .319 with 27 home runs and 92 RBIs."
Riley Boyd: Boyd, was a member of the Quincy Gems baseball team in 2018, was drafted in the 28th round. Boyd was picked at the 829 spot by the Kansas City Royals.
Davis Schwab: Schwab, was a member of the Quincy Gems baseball team in 2018, was drafted in round number 37. Schwab was pick number 1117th overall, and was selected by the Atlanta Braves, joining former teammate Cody Birdsong.
