The day of the first hard freeze is a serious thing for many in Missouri who have plants that are not built for cold temperatures. According to history, you can expect below freezing temperatures sooner rather than later.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri shared one of the most detailed graphics that I've ever seen from them that is jam-packed with information. It contains 8 different Missouri places along with several from nearby Illinois and includes the dates of the first frost, freeze and hard freeze.

They include the earliest date for each of those events in each of those Missouri places along with the average and the latest. Like I said, tons of helpful weather info for freezing temps.

If you look at the first date of a hard freeze in Missouri, you'll see on average it's around the end of October or early in November. But, it's also worth noting that it has happened early in October, too.

If I had to guess (and that's all it would be), I'd estimate the freezing temperatures to begin in November and not October based on the warm and dry conditions that the National Weather Service are predicting through the middle of the month as of this writing.

Time will tell when the temperatures finally dive below freezing and stay there. I'd be shocked if it doesn't happen early in November, but Missouri weather loves to be unpredictable so I reserve the right to be wrong (again).
