Innovative Company Leaves Illinois for Missouri
When you challenge norms you had better be able to deliver. Altering the consensus perspective can be a challenge. An Illinois company called ReNuTeq decided to relocate to Missouri to start changing minds on bamboo structures.

When you think of bamboo structures, quite possibly images of a hut from rural Thailand or Bangladesh pop into your mind. That’s fair. Bamboo grows there, and it’s strong. Bamboo has been used for building purposes for millennia.

ReNuTeq molds and modifies the bamboo into specific shapes for building purposes, and state quite confidently that it is stronger than steel. This is when the middle schooler in me imagines two guys stick fighting. One with a bamboo stick, the other rebar. Who would win?

The Company has been making believers with contracts with BMW for solar powered charging stations. They also are using bamboo for Veterans Airport in Marion, Illinois. Soon you may see their bamboo employed in making the new Crestwood Community Center.

ReNuTeq decided to move from Illinois during COVID-19 and landed in St. Charles in 2024, citing heavy state taxation as the primary reason.

ReNuTeq is one of just nine companies in the USA currently who mold and modify bamboo. It’s new, it’s growing (pun intended?), and it’s less expensive than steel.
