The U.S. open is back at Flushing Meadow, New York including ample representation from Illinois and Missouri in women’s singles and doubles. If you’re a casual Grand Slam fan get to know these players and get ready.

Madison Keys – The Rock Island Illinois native has reached the US Open semifinals before (2017) and is seeded 14th  this year. She won her first round match against Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-1. Her next match is Wednesday Aug. 28 vs Australian Maya Joint.

Taylor Townsend - The unseeded Chicagoan outlasted Italy’s Martina Trevisan in the first round 6-2,7-5 and plays Wednesday Aug 28 against Paula Badosa from Spain. Townsend has made a name for herself playing doubles winning seven titles over the last decade. Her doubles partner is the aforementioned Katerina Siniakova and they just won the Wimbledon women’s doubles championship earlier this summer.

Caroline Dolehide - Her first round match against fellow American Danielle Collins saw the twenty five year old from Hinsdale Illinois upset the 11th seed for her first US Open victory! She’ll play Italy’s Sara Errani in the second round August 28th. Her doubles partner is Desirae Krawczyk. They play against the team of Baptiste/Osuigwe. Dolehide and Krawczyk made the doubles semifinals at the Italian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year. Making the doubles finals at the Qatar Open and winning the doubles championship at this year’s Canadian Open.

Ashlyn Krueger – Born in Springfield Missouri, the twenty year old won the Japan Women’s Open a year ago to claim her first singles title. She also nabbed her first doubles title earlier this spring with Sloane Stephens at the Charleston open.  Krueger won her first round US Open match against Zhang Shuai 6-0, 1-6, 7-5. Ashlyn’s women’s doubles partner is Sloane Stephens. They take on the duo of Bouzkova/Sorribes Torma Wed Aug 28.
