The text going around is supposedly from the Illinois State Department of Motor Vehicles, claiming it’s a final notice for an outstanding traffic ticket and providing instructions on how to pay the fine. THIS IS A SCAM.

What Should You Do?

QPD advises residents to delete the text immediately and ignore the “request.” Do not click any links, follow any instructions, or provide personal information to these scammers.

If you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam, report it immediately to the Better Business Bureau so it can be added to their Scam Tracker system. Be sure to lock your credit cards, freeze your credit reports (the BBB website has step-by-step instructions), and change all your passwords.
