Jack Frost Is Coming – Could Warming Up Your Car Get You a Ticket in Illinois?
Bitterly cold temperatures seem to be here, and none of us are ready for them. Many of us are preparing to drive to grandma’s house or head to work on frosty mornings. But if you plan to warm up your car before anyone gets in, it’s important to remember Illinois law.

Illinois Law States
According to Illinois law:
No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the ignition, effectively setting the brake thereon and, when standing upon any perceptible grade, turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway.
The reason is simple: leaving your car unattended while running increases the risk of theft, which could create an even bigger headache. Even worse, someone, like a child, could get hurt. It’s a matter of safety.

To stay safe and avoid a ticket, consider investing in a remote car starter. This allows you to start and warm up your vehicle without leaving it unattended, reducing the risk of theft or getting ticketed. It’s a win-win-win. Remember, tickets can cost up to $120, and nobody wants that, especially during the holiday season.
