With the 4th of July holiday around the corner, here’s a reminder about which fireworks are legal in Illinois and which ones are not.

There’s really just one thing to remember: all fireworks are illegal in Illinois. That’s it. The big booming fireworks, the loud ones, and everything in between are against the law in the state. However, there are a few exceptions you can get away with without getting into trouble.

You can legally use these fireworks, sparklers, some small-cap guns, snake or glow worm pellets, smoke devices, trick noisemakers (known as party poppers), booby traps, and snappers.

You can still have fun with fireworks, but you need to make sure you’re using ones that are legal in Illinois. And for all the neighborhoods out there with kids and dogs, can we please stop setting off fireworks after July 5th? There’s no reason to keep shooting them off a week after the 4th of July!
