According to an article from NBC Chicago, 14 of the top 250 hospitals in the US are here in the Land of Lincoln. This list was put together by a group called Healthgrades, and they looked at over 4,500 hospitals across the US to find the 250 best. In the article, they say...

"...researchers at Healthgrades measured the patient outcomes and risk factors of more than 30 common procedures across patient groups to help identify facilities that provided top care...hospitals that made the list of 250 rank in the nation's "top 5 percent for overall clinical excellence."...In Illinois, 14 hospitals made the list of 250, with three Illinois hospitals appearing in the report's top 50: Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ascension Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village, and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge."

Some of the other hospitals that made the list of the top 250 from Illinois include Javon Bea Hospital - Rockton in Rockford, Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, and Evanston Hospital in Evanston, to see the complete list, click here!

Does this impact your decision-making?

I love seeing different rankings like this, and I was definitely disappointed not to see any local hospitals in the Quincy area on this list. But does it impact my decision-making on where I go to seek care? I would say that no, this ranking doesn't negatively impact my trust in the local hospitals, but if I was diagnosed with a rare or aggressive disease I would absolutely take these rankings and other hospital rankings into my decision-making about where to seek treatment. It is good to know that if you did the math (250 hospitals divided by 50 states) you'd expect to have 5 hospitals per state on the list, so we here in Illinois are loaded with top hospitals compared to other states.
