Hannibal Pirates Armaments Sharpened for Football Home Opener
Following a last-second loss last week in Jefferson City to Helias 23-20, the Hannibal football Pirates want to get the bad taste out of their mouths. Lutheran St. Charles provides that opportunity Friday night at Porter Stadium.
Porter Stadium welcomes the Pirate faithful Friday night
After falling behind 20-0 a week ago the Pirates got their sea legs and found their rhythm rattling off 20 unanswered points of their own before succumbing to a last- second field goal. While that was occurring Lutheran St. Charles was losing to Cahokia, IL. (at home) 38-7.
Lutheran St. Charles is in St. Peters, Mo.
Lutheran St. Charles will rely on just a handful of athletes for their success. Starting with running back Amar’e Carter, who will be option one and two for the Cougars on offense. Quarterback Connor Harrison was just 4-11 for 28 yards in week one. If the Pirates defense is game, they’ll want to see similar or smaller numbers for the Cougar offense by the game’s end.

When Hannibal has the ball, Lutheran St. Charles defense will be led by Amar’e Carter (again) and Tristan MacLachlan. Ryan Mayer and Brooklyn Willis will also be involved in trying to stop a Pirate attack that relied upon Kade and Tre Hoskins against Helias. Expect Landyn Essig and Darrion Washington to get several touches Friday night too. And look for Hannibal quarterback Wyeth Dorsey to have room to shine should the Cougars decide to crowd the line.
A bounty of positives can be had by the Pirates
A year ago, Hannibal won this match 57-8. Will it be that lopsided this year? Tune in and find out Friday night 6:30 pregame, 7p kickoff on AM1070 KHMO and streaming online at khmoradio.com or on the KHMO app.
