Get Excited Missouri – State Is Below Average For Grocery Costs
It's been painful going to the grocery store for many of us, however, there is good news. If you shop in Missouri weekly for groceries, the Show-Me State is below average for the cost of food.
All About Location
Visual Capitalist put together a map of the 50 states and how much it costs weekly to go to the grocery store. The good news for Missouri, the Show-Me state is below the nation's average for cost at $244 per week. The average is $270.
And it's all about where Missouri is located.
The Midwest itself is below average (even Illinois by $1), and that's all due to the fact that the Midwest is tied to farming and food production which lowers the food costs. The shipping to get food to the store does not cost as much.
Now, you're probably thinking...yeah right. It's true. It probably doesn't seem like the cost is down, but it is compared to other states. For example, the highest cost for groceries...Hawaii. Makes sense since everything has to get shipped to the island.
The least Wisconsin, cause they probably just live off of cheese curds.
If you shop in Missouri it may not seem like you're saving a ton of money each week, but the research shows it could be worse. You could live in Hawaii or Mississippi and pay higher prices.
