Fun Events in the Quincy/Hannibal Area to Look Forward to in October

The 2015 Barry Apple Festival starts Thursday, October 1 and continues through Sunday, October 4. “Barry’s Got Talent,” pageants, a 5K run/walk, arts & crafts, a carnival, and of course, plenty of apple-themed food are all parts of this popular annual event. A complete schedule for the Barry Apple Festival can be found online.

Visiting the pumpkin patch at Mill Creek Farm is a Halloween tradition for many families. The pumpkin patch is open weekends in October from 12pm - 5pm. Kids will find free hay rides, a corn maze, and other Halloween treats as they search for the perfect pumpkin.

The Hannibal Jaycees Haunted House is open Fridays & Saturdays in October from 7:30 p.m. - 12 a.m. Admission is $10. A $15 combo gets you entry into the maze and the Haunted House, plus twenty paintballs for the outside Zombie Paintball shooting gallery. Additional paintball games are $5. New to the Haunted House this year will be an attraction called The Last Ride, which is a motion simulator ride that includes a “casket cam” so your family and friends can watch you take your “last ride.” Tickets to The Last Ride are $5.

Haunted Hollow Haunted Trail on Highway F near Palmyra is open Friday and Saturday nights in October. The cost is $10.00 per person to tour the trail.

The Hannibal Haunted Church is open every Friday and Saturday in October. Admission $10 Adults , $7 for kids 12 and under. The Haunted Church is at 515 Lyon Street, next to Ten Pin Alleys.

The City of Quincy will continue its 175th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 3 when the Quincy Fire Department will hold a parade of fire trucks down Maine Street. The parade starts at 1 p.m. at 12th and Maine travels to 5th and Maine. The public is invited.

Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing will be hosting the 27th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Sunday, October 4 from noon to 3. The event is free to attend. Kids bring their stuffed animals and baby dolls to get a “check-up" and participate in fun activities to learn more about how to stay healthy and be safe! This event will be in the Blessing Hospital Auditorium. Enter through the main entrance of Blessing Hospital at 11th & Spring.

The Rotary Club of Quincy presents Oktoberfest on October 10 at the former Dick Brothers Brewery at 9th and York. Hours are noon-10. Admission is free. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample fall brews from local beer distributors and one-of-a-kind beer made by home brewers, in addition to traditional German foods. Contests and live performances will also be part of Oktoberfest.

The Hannibal Jaycees Zombie Run 5K takes place on Saturday, October 10. Registration begins at 4, the race begins at 6. $20 pre online registration, $25 after September 25.

Tuesday, October 13 is the date for Hannibal's Band Day in 2015. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. The field show starts at 6. Band Day is a longstanding tradition in Hannibal. Band Day 2015 will be the 67th year of the event.

The Early Tin Dusters Fall Color Run in Quincy will take place October 16-18. Tin Dusters weekend activities include nearly 900 pre-1949 vehicles driving through the streets of Quincy.

The Autumn Historic Folk Life Festival is October 17-18 along Hannibal's Main Street. The Hannibal Arts Council has been presenting this event, which attracts visitors from all around the region, for almost four decades. Main Street will be closed to traffic, as arts & crafts, food and cultural booths are set up down each side of the street.

The Pike County Color Drive, the premiere, county-wide tourism event in Pike County, IL is always on the third weekend in October. From Pikecolordrive.com: "Every fall, the Pike County Color Drive provides an opportunity for anyone with an interest to do so to see the beauty of rural Pike County bathed in the splendor of autumn. Each community provides a unique roster of events, activities, vendors, crafts, food, and exhibits for the general public to take part in." The Fall Color Drive is October 17-18 in 2015.

The 31st annual Louisiana Country Colorfest in Louisiana, Missouri will be October 17-18. The Colorfest festival area is Georgia Street from 7th Street to Riverfront Park. The main stage is at the corner of Georgia and 7th. Elks BBQ and Beer Garden are at the corner of Georgia and 5th Streets. The Kid's Korner is on the corner of Georgia and Main.  Saturday's car show and Sunday's motorcycle show will be at Riverfront Park.

Marching bands from Illinois, Missouri and Iowa will visit Quincy for Octoberfest on Saturday, October 17. A parade down Maine Street will begin at 2 p.m. The parade starts at 30th and Maine. After the parade, the bands will move to Flinn Stadium where a field competition will start at 5:15 p.m.

The 7th annual Cadan's Carnival for CDH Awareness is October 18 at the Quincy K of C from 1 - 5 p.m. Halloween family fun! Costume contest, carnival games, hay rides, horse rides, silent auction. Free admission, prices on rides and games vary.

The Marion County Health Department and Home Health Agency is once again sponsoring the annual Halloween Parade in Hannibal. The parade will be at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 from Grand Avenue and Broadway to the end of Main Street.

Quincy Community Theatre's production of Treasure Island will take the stage October 22-25. Tickets are only $9. Tickets go on sale September 28.

The Pike County Health Department's annual Run for Your Life 5K Run/Walk at Bowling Green Reservoir begins at 4 on Saturday, October 24. Registration starts at 3. Trophies will be given to the 1st female and 1st male survivors, 1st team survivor, best team costume, and best costume overall.

Sawyer’s Creek will have their PUTT or TREAT event on Saturday, October 24 from 2 to 6. $10 arm bands includes unlimited outdoor activities, candy from area businesses, costume contest entry and kids' carnival games. No charge for parents with the paid children.

Hannibal Parks & Recreation's annual Pumpkins in the Park event will be October 25 from 3 - 5pm. Categories include: Scariest, Most Original, and Funniest. Age Groups: Children (12 & Under) and Adults (13 & Up). All pumpkins must be pre-decorated and at Nipper park between 2 - 3 p.m. Call 573-221-0154 for more information.

The Kroc Center will have family pumpkin carving on Sunday, October 25 from 3-4 p.m. All ages are welcome! Tools will be provided, and it’s only $10 per pumpkin. Located in the Meadows. Please register before October 23.

Safe Halloween for Kids returns to the Eagle's Nest Hotel & Conference Center on Thursday, October 29 from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This is a free event offering a safe alternative for kids to dress in their favorite costumes and go trick-or-treating throughout the Eagle’s Nest Hotel & Conference Center.

The Kroc Center is presenting Kroc-r-treat on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. This event provides a safe and fun place to take kids for Halloween. The Kroc Center will have a fun carnival experience complete with stalls, candy, a photo booth and more. Don’t forget to dress up. FREE and open to families with children of all ages.
