Four From Illinois and Missouri Compete in Super Showdown
Should you somehow be disinterested, or maybe need an extra rooting interest in the upcoming Super Bowl, perhaps bringing some local flavor to it could entice you.
There are four players who went to high school in Illinois and Missouri playing in the 59th edition. Two players from Missouri schools both play for the Kansas City Chiefs. The other two, who are from Illinois, play for the Philadelphia Eagles.
For the KC Chiefs, representing Missouri high schools are:
#98 Tershawn Wharton – University City High
Wharton began high school at Maplewood-Richmond High before transferring to U-City High for his senior year. He played college football at Missouri S&T, before signing as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City in 2020. He started 10 games this season and has found a place in the defensive line rotation.
#97 Felix Anudike-Azumoah – Lee’s Summit High
Anudike-Azumoah graduated from Lee’s Summit high before playing collegiately at Kansas State U. he was drafted in the first round with the 31st pick in 2023. Starting 3 games this season Anudike-Azumoah continues to grow into the position of NFL defensive end/edge rusher.
The Illinois players suiting up for Philadelphia are:
#4 Jake Elliott - Lyons Township High
The Eagles kicker is from the Chicago western suburbs. Encouraged to join the football team after showing raw ability in a homecoming kicking contest, Elliott made a splash quickly making big kicks for his school. He chose to play college ball at University of Memphis. He was the first kicker drafted in 2017. In the 5th round by the Cincinnati Bengals who ultimately waived him. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles and promptly kicked the longest field by a rookie in NFL history (61 yds).
#79 Trevor Keegan - Crystal Lake South High
A two time all-state player in high school, Keegan was the top rated football recruit in the state as a senior. He attended the University of Michigan, was two time all big ten guard and won a National Championship with the Wolverines a year ago. The rookie was selected in the 5th round by the Philadelphia Eagles and backs up starting left guard Landon Dickerson.

Yes, you can certainly root for the KC Chiefs and these players from Missouri if you live in Illinois. Just like you can root for these Illinois based players for the Eagles if you are in Missouri. Keep an eye out for these four during the game. They are living their dreams of playing for a ring.
