The Missouri Highway Patrol announced its traffic crash statistics for the Christmas holiday weekend.

Officials said Monday that five Missourians lost their lives in traffic crashes over the weekend – three in the Kansas City area, one in the St. Louis area and one in southwest Missouri.

Troopers handled 175 traffic crashes last weekend, with 55 injuries along with the five fatalities. 62 were arrested for driving while intoxicated.

There were no boating crashes or drownings over the holiday.

The Christmas weekend reporting period ran from 6 p.m. Thursday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
