Illinois’ Best Spots for Panning Gold
Gold diggers united there is plenty of gold to go around in Illinois, thats if you can find it.

A Brief History of Gold in Illinois
According to Gold Rush Nuggets, we can actually thank Canada for the gold found in Illinois. Thousands of years ago, melting glaciers from Canada carried gold deposits south. As the ice receded, some of that gold ended up in Illinois and neighboring states, just waiting to be discovered.
Some of the Best Places to Look:
Sangamon River – Macon County
Illinois & Spoon Rivers – Fulton County
Vermilion River – Ford County
Embarras River – Jasper County
Wabash River – Wabash County
A Word of Caution
Like most things in Illinois, gold-digging comes with a few rules! Be aware that certain areas, especially state lands, have strict regulations. Always check with the proper authorities before you start prospecting to make sure you’re following the law.

And if you don’t strike gold, don’t worry, most people don’t! The flakes you find probably won’t make you rich, but they might be worth enough for half a tank of gas or a nice dinner out.
