There are a few stops you can make on the way down to St. Louis like the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac, side road statues like the Muffler Man, and plenty of selfies stops along the way.
If you decide to take the famous road from start to finish you will cover eight states in total and 2,400 miles of road. Fun fact: the route was built to make a more efficient way to get from Chicago to Los Angels back in the 1920s and the famous route also has been an inspiration for TV, music, and books.
