Don't bother leaving the Show-Me State to go camping because apparently, it is the second-best state in the country to take a camping trip. What makes Missouri such a special place to experience the great outdoors?

TripSavvy has a list of the Best US States to Go Camping and Missouri finished second on the list behind only Colorado. Missouri ranked ahead of states like Montana, New Mexico, and New York, but what makes Missouri such a great state for camping? On the site they say...

"Missouri boasts hundreds of conservation and natural areas, 49 state parks, the vast Mark Twain National Forest, the Ozark National Scenic Riverway, and the 225-mile Katy Trail...And in Missouri, there's a lot of water. Cast a line in one of many spring creeks, float a river, or row a boat. In Missouri, there is no lack of water sports. The Lake of the Ozarks offers 1,150 miles of shoreline (that's more shore than the entire coast of California), not to mention the state's namesake river."

To me so much of what makes camping a fun experience is the idea that you can hike, fish, canoe, kayak, and Missouri is just so full of places to experience all of those things. Also, Missouri is more manageable than having to camp in the Rocky Mountains or get yourself all the way out to the wilderness in Wyoming. You can take a flight into St. Louis and be in nature within an hour.
