Chiefs Road Trip Lands in Los Angeles vs Chargers
The undefeated Kansas City Chiefs square off against the 2-1 Los Angeles Chargers who will be keen to not drop two games back in the AFC West after just four weeks.
The Chargers are banged up, missing several key players. QB Justin Herbert, RT Joe Alt, LT Rashawn Slater and DE Joey Bosa. Plus S Derwin James is out on team suspension. All of the aforementioned are first round picks…(!!!) Consequently, the Chiefs are a 7 point favorite on the road.
DC Steve Spagnuolo will have the defense keyed up with a thin offensive line opposite them. That was a key factor last weekend when Atlanta dropped a couple starting linemen. True, having them get hurt in game is different than building a game plan around the back-ups. Chris Jones and the Kansas City defense will be ready to get physical. The more the Chargers key on Jones the more Nick Bolton and George Karlaftis are left one on one. That’s a win for KC.
With Bosa out expect the Chiefs to run Carson Steele and Samaje Perine more than they did against the Falcons.
Los Angeles can’t afford to cheat a safety up near the line to help as Patrick Mahomes would exploit it over and over again. Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce will all be looking to be targeted on the regular Sunday.
On offense the Chargers will need to not turn the ball over, let the clock run, and on defense look to create turnovers and build on Mahomes early season trend of throwing interceptions. He has four picks so far opposite 5 touchdown passes.
It’s still early in the season, but the Chiefs could create some separation in the AFC West with a win.
