No NFL team has won three Super Bowls in a row. The Chiefs begin a hunt that seven other franchises have been on but none have achieved.

Each decade in the Super Bowl era has had its aspirants. Early on the Packers were a threat to three-peat in the late sixties before the term was even invented. The seventies saw the Dolphins and Steelers win back to back but fail at number three. The Steelers did it twice. The eighties had Joe Montana and the 49ers win back to back. The nineties had the dominant Cowboys teams who went back to back and three of four. The Patriots and Tom Brady owned the twenty first century with a back to back, three of four and three of five. Still no team has ringed the season three times in a row. Head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs now get the opportunity.

The road won’t be easy with Kansas City’s week one opponent being the very capable Baltimore Ravens who have their own post season aspirations.

Arrowhead will be bright with the Thursday night cameras focused on two of the game’s most dynamic players in the Chiefs accomplished quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Ravens electric signal caller Lamar Jackson.

Baltimore has added four time Pro-Bowler in former running back Derrick Henry. He fits the traditional hard running tailback that the Ravens find success with. As Henry prepares to surpass 10,000 career rushing yards the question is --How much does he have left in the tank?

Jackson will be looking for tight end Mark Andrews and receiver Zay Flowers in trying to keep Kansas City from crowding the line on defense. The Chiefs defense is game with a stout line including George Karlaftis, Derrick Nnadi and Chris Jones and defensive backfield with Trent McDuffie and Justin Reid.

When Kansas City has the ball Patrick Mahomes would love to showcase rookie Xavier Worthy. Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco and Travis Kelce are consistent threats at moving the chains and in the red-zone. Baltimore traditionally has a lively defense and this group is aggressive as always. Nnamdi Madubuike is a force on the d-line, Roquan Smith is solid at linebacker and Kyle Hamilton and Brandon Stephens anchor the defensive backfield. When KC’s offense misfires Chiefs kingdom will be keenly watching new punter Matt Araiza who has a big leg.
