The scariest thing about candy when I was trick-or-treating was the Mr. Bones candy coffins, with the candy bones that could fit together to make most of a skeleton, or maybe gummy worms? In the 21st century, there is a candy shop making Halloween candy that would’ve made me think twice.

Is this a trick? Or is it a treat? Turns out the answer is both. Are you bold enough to grab a Candycopia “Fright Flight”? A grab bag plump with disturbing candy treats that don’t necessarily look like candy treats, and the ones that do, may have a secret surprise.

Candycopia in Oak Park, Illinois has prepared “Fright Flight” bags with gummy eyeballs, cotton candy crickets, five fiery Jelly Belly jelly beans, sour pickle balls, super salty Swedish starfish, and Black Death sour candy (a British import). The ones that look unappetizing --the “ewww” candies-- are the sweet treat ones. The ones that look more like traditional candy are the ones with surprise flavor challenges.

That’s what Candycopia calls the “Fright Flight Candy Challenge”. This challenge is hardcore enough that the company states that some of the candies involved are suitable for people aged 13 and up. Trick or treat? It’s both, if you aren’t too scared.

We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
