The Show-Me state certainly embraces the culture of big booming fireworks. Missouri has been the go-to for legit fireworks from border state firework fans my whole life. But for the big displays that are centralized events for river cities like Hannibal, where are the best spots for viewing?

Do you keep your prime location a secret?

In Hannibal gathering in Nipper Park is an easy call. It’s right on the river front. There is grass to sit or lay on. You also have the parking area between the railroad lines between the levee and the river. The levee itself provides an elevated perspective to sit and watch from. North 1st Street and along Bridge Street south of the Mark Twain memorial bridge seems like a decent spot too.

Of course there’s Lovers Leap as well, but you have to be committed to showing up early to get a spot from this exquisite vista with its view of downtown Hannibal and the riverfront.

Also, across the Mississippi in Illinois at the John Hay recreation area is a nice location to view the fireworks from a spot that may not be as crowded as Hannibal itself.

However, the two best locations for viewing fireworks in Hannibal, Mo. could quite possibly be on board a boat out on the river, or if you happen to have access to an historic downtown Hannibal rooftop. Odds are it’s easier to get on a boat than atop an historic downtown rooftop, but either of those would be prime for fireworks viewing on the 4th of July.
