I am a BIG supporter of adopt not shop, and October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month/ So if you are thinking about getting a four-legged friend this would be the month to adopt. There are plenty of dogs and cats needing a forever home at the Quincy Humane Society and the Northeast Humane Society.

Adopting an animal is a big decision and you are more than welcome to meet several animals (there are individual rooms set up) and see which one(s) are most likely to bond with you and your family.

Quincy Humane Society and the Northeast Humane Society are always looking for volunteers as well as donations of pet food and toys. And if you just want to stop by and play with the animals for a few minutes, you're more than welcome to do that as well.

I already have two dogs, but my daughter desperately wants to bring home a feline family member. So when the time comes, I know where I'll be going.

If you are interested in adopting, contact the Quincy Humane Society at 217-223-8786 or stop by their location at 1705 N. 36th St. in Quincy. In Hannibal contract the Northeast Humane Society at 573-2219222 or stop by their location at 2923 Warren Barrett Dr.
