Adopt a Cat for International Cat Day!
You've seen the decorations in stores for weeks, but the day is finally here! It's International Cat Day! If you're thinking about welcoming a furry friend to your family keep two things in mind: A) Cats are jerks [Source: I grew up with cats. They're total jerks] B) Cats are awesome, and adoption is the way to go [Source: I grew up with adopted cats, and even though they were jerks, they're also really awesome and would recommend them as pets].
Roughly 33% (yearly national average) of all cats that are taken in by shelters are unfortunately put down because they go unadopted, for a myriad of reasons, from being too old to being black. The stigma of black cats as harbingers of doom runs deep. Here's a fun cat video to put your mind back on happy thoughts:
If you're thinking about getting a pet cat in the near future, visit the local shelters to see if they have one you can take in. Ask about fostering a cat for a while as a sort of trial run. Having a pet has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease... so really, when you think about it... two lives are saved. (Everybody say "awwwwwwwwwwwww")
