Why Don’t We Have A Tri-State Olympics…?
The 2020 Olympics start off in Japan this Summer, but we here in the Tri-States should host our own version of the Olympics!
The COVID-19 pandemic pushed the 2020 Summer Olympics back to this summer, the games are kicking off in Japan in July, where the best of the best from around the world will compete. But what if we here in the Tri-States once every four years gathered together to hold our own Olympics...hear me out.
The Tri-States is the perfect area to have a regional Olympic games, we have three different states, and a bunch of great towns to choose from. Each city would get to field their own teams for the different games to compete in, just think of all cities that could enter teams. Quincy, Hannibal, Canton, Palmyra, Liberty, Camp Point, Bowling Green, Monroe City, Mt. Sterling, Pittsfield, Keokuk, Macomb, and even some of the smaller towns could ban together to form teams.
Now as far as the games themselves go you could host them at the different college and university campuses around the area like Western Illinois, Quincy University, HLGU, John Wood Community College, Culver Stockton, and even some of the larger High Schools could take turns hosting the events. The games would last for a week, and you could compete in swimming, basketball, golf, tennis, soccer, track and field, and even specialty events that suit our area like fishing and shooting events.
Obviously it would be something that would take a lot of planning and a bunch of sponsors, but wouldn't it be a fun idea to gather as a Tri-States every 4 years and compete against each other to prove who is the best of the best!
