The Chicago tradition carries on into 2022. A new time-lapse video shows the river in the heart of the city turning a brilliant green in preparation for St. Patrick's Day.

This video was first shared by Craig Shimala on Twitter. The time-lapse shows how quickly the water takes on the tint of a shamrock.

As ABC 7 mentions, the Chicago Plumbers Union Local 130 is behind this waterway color transformation. It's a proprietary dye and they're not divulging exactly what they do to make Chicago River green.

WGN covered the crowds that came for the spectacle and the parade in downtown Chicago.

I noticed on the YouTube share that not everyone is a fan. Here are a couple of comments:

Atlas Fenix - "wonder the impact of this tint over the water environment."

Brandon Wright - "This is easily one of the stupidest things humanity does."

I personally think the doubters should lighten up and let people enjoy the sight, but that's just me. Whether you're a fan or not, it's a Chicago tradition that isn't stopping anytime soon.
