Verizon to Acquire Chariton Valley Wireless Network

A communications company that has served northeast Missouri for over 60 years is selling its wireless network to a nationally known wireless provider.

In a press release Thursday, officials with Chariton Valley Wireless announced they have entered into an agreement that calls for Verizon to acquire the wireless network assets of Chariton Valley's LTE in Rural America wireless network.

The acquisition of assets is subject to FCC approval and is expected to close in early 2022.

Chariton Valley officials say the sale will not affect their residential or business customers who currently receive traditional voice, internet and video services from Chariton Valley.

Officials also say wireless customers will not need to take any action at this time. Customers will get information about how the change in ownership will affect their service when that information becomes available.

Chariton Valley has been in business since 1952, headquartered in Macon. It has 73 cell tower locations in service, covering a 12 county area of northeast Missouri, from Marion, Ralls and Pike counties on the east to Linn, Chariton and Carroll counties on the west.

According to Chariton Valley President and CEO Kirby Underberg, "Entering this agreement will best serve our wireless customers in the long-term.
