Up Close Video of One of Missouri’s Violent Sunday Twisters
It's no secret that it's been a wild weather day in Missouri and Illinois. New video shows one of the violent tornadoes that caused damage in Missouri today.
A family near Mirabile Township in Missouri shared this tornado that quite literally traveled parallel to their backyard. Mirabile Township is located to the northeast of the metro Kansas City area.
There was also video shared by another channel of other Missouri twisters today including one tornado that was spotted east of Purdin.
A large and dangerous tornado was also reported near Chester, Illinois south of St. Louis tonight resulting in a rare tornado emergency warning by the National Weather Service.
NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has documented a half dozen tornadoes so far that have struck Missouri. Some have done damage including one that completely destroyed a home to the southwest of Libertyville, Missouri.
Their reports include reports that continued into Pike County, Illinois with nearly a dozen trees down near Highway 54 and power lines down in Griggsville, Illinois.
Several areas reported hail damage also.
As we reported yesterday, we knew there was a distinct possibility that rainfall records in Quincy and Hannibal would be broken. The NWS has confirmed both records did fall although the official totals have yet to be registered. The prior record 1.21 inches in 1934 in Hannibal while Quincy's record total from 1975 was 1.09 inches. There have been reports of 4 to 5 inches of rain through many parts of our area today.
The severe weather isn't over yet as warnings continue through parts of southern Missouri and Illinois. Be sure to follow the National Weather Service in St. Louis on Facebook for updates and make sure you have batteries in your weather radio if you have one.
UPDATE: As of Monday morning, reports of tornado damage are starting to come in.
