Summer vacation time is approaching and soon the top vacation spots will again be abuzz with travelers from all over the world.

I've lived a heavily un-vacationed life when it comes to going anywhere exotic or fancy. A week in a condo on the beach in Florida, 15 years ago was nice. I'd like to do that again. I also spent a week in a lake house on Huron Lake in Ohio, and while it wasn't 'fancy' it was very relaxing. I'd do that again too. I've been to Chicago, New Orleans and Dallas... but those were business trips. 99% of my life's vacation time has been spent visiting family or friends or as a 'staycation' at home. Those are nice too, just not what people think of when they think of big vacations.

This is all a part of why I'm looking forward to the last week in June this year. My daughter and I are going to finally see New York City. It's a family trip too, in a way. My little sister lives not far from the Big Apple and will be showing us the sites. Family visit or not, this one feels like a 'real' vacation again.

Looking ahead in my life, I might have opportunities for some cool trips. My daughter wants to live and work in Australia, so obviously that trip will have to be made many times. My girlfriend wants to go to Belize. Actually I'm pretty sure she wants to live there. I can go for either or both. :)

Where are some of the best vacation spots you've been too? According to The Travel Channel, the top vacation destinations are...

  • Paris, France
  • New York, New York
  • Hawaii
  • Rome, Italy
  • Cancun, Mexico
  • Orlando, Florida
  • London, England
  • Miami, Florida
  • Las Vegas, Nevada
  • San Francisco, California
  • Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Branson, Missouri
  • Puerto Rico

OK, I've been to Branson and Orlando too. I guess maybe I'm not quite as vacation-starved as I thought. I'm still ready for New York, Australia and Belize though.
