CAVES

It might be the most frequently used location in the state of Missouri for weddings and it lies hundreds of feet below the ground. It's a cave that seemingly marriages were meant for.

There once was a parson in the early days of Missouri known as Keithly. He left in the California gold rush and came back with riches. Many believe his treasure is hidden somewhere in a cave near Galena, Missouri. To this day it has never been found, but there are hints to its whereabouts.

Too many stories these days don't have a happy ending. Fortunately, this one does. A dog who was lost since early June was just found alive an well 500 feet down in a Missouri cave.

Do you love mansions? Who doesn't? What about highway 79? I have found a mansion in Elsberry, Missouri that checks those boxes plus includes underground caves.

Having lived in or near to Missouri a majority of my life, I've been in just about every cave in the state. However, even with my spelunking past, there's one that's just hit my radar that I had never heard of and I'm thinking it's possible you might not have heard of it either.

I don't get the chance to adventure as much as I used to. Fortunately, I can vicariously live through the journeys of others including two adventurers who recently shared what it's like inside the caverns of Cave-In-Rock State Park in southern Illinois.

If you found a mysterious hole in the ground, would you grab some rope and descent down into it? A group of explorers did and learned the unknown hole they found went down over 200 feet into the Earth.

No state in America has caves quite like those you'll find in Missouri. One of them can lay claim to being the largest cave entrance room in the United States. It's truly something to "marvel" at. Literally. Oh, and it was once believed to have the fountain of youth inside, too.

It's one of the more interesting Native American legends in Illinois. It's a cave that stories say once was home to a massive bird known as the Piasa.
