Steampunk Set to Dazzle in Hannibal this Weekend
If you are uninitiated to steampunk, this weekend in Hannibal is great opportunity to see its creative largesse in person. The Big River Steampunk Festival is Back in America’s hometown.
Big River Steampunk Festival began in Hannibal in 2014
Steampunk is a style mashup of Victorian era, the old west, sci-fi, goth and old world industrial. This mashup provides a wonderful opportunity for creative people to flex their innovative muscle.
Several Stages with many different shows all Labor Day Weekend long
Movies and TV shows that feature steampunk style include the 1990s Will Smith film “Wild Wild West”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Mortal Engines”. Some anime leans into the style also, like “Arcane” and “Fullmetal Alchemist”, and TV shows – “His Dark Materials” and “Penny Dreadful” along with video games like “BioShock” and “Gloomwood”.

This is the 10th(?) edition of the Big River Steampunk Festival (Covid always messes with easy math), billed as the largest outdoor steampunk festival in the United States. Several of the specific events are hard to get tickets as they sell out quickly. But just to be present in the midst of everything is a treat, and there are many performances to see on multiple stages throughout the festival.
The Festival begins Friday at noon in Hannibal
Everything starts Friday with shows kicking off at noon, and continuing right through the holiday weekend, wrapping up on labor day Monday afternoon.
