I grew up in Chicagoland, and since moving to the Quincy/Hannibal Tri-State area I have learned A LOT about the unique things this area has to offer, and yet no one told me about Snake Alley! I stumbled upon Snake Alley thanks to cruising Twitter, I saw a tweet about it and wanted to learn more. According to Wikipedia Snake Alley is a street in Burlington, Iowa, and they go on to say...
"Snake Alley is a street located in Burlington, Iowa, which was built in 1894. In 2017, Ripley's Believe It or Not! recognized the street as "Unbelievably Crooked" and the #1 Odd Spot in their Odd Spots Across America Campaign...In the 1940s, writer Robert L. Ripley saw the street in person, and decided to add it to his Ripley's Believe It, Or Not! column, calling it "The Crookedest Street in the World". The turns on Snake Alley are sharper than San Francisco’s famous Lombard Street, giving it a total of 1100° of turning from end to end, where Lombard Street's straighter curves total only 1000°."

According to Google Maps, a trip to Snake Alley from our radio stations here in Quincy, IL would only take you 77 miles or about an hour and 25 minutes to drive there. You probably want to go when Snake Alley is hosting its annual uphill bike race or the Snake Alley Art Fair, I certainly plan on making a trip the next time I am headed to Iowa!
