Judging by your response, the upcoming Merry Potter Christmas is one of the most anticipated events of 2020, which admittedly hasn’t been full of cheer.

The fundraiser for the Hannibal History Museum was supposed to be a weekend affair, but with hundreds of people saying they’re planning on touring the magical Potter world, the museum decided to open the celebration every day from December 5th through the 20th. The hours are from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.  Admission is $5.

The Hannibal History Museum at 200 N. Main will be transformed into a magical wonderland to celebrate all things from the world of wizardry. You’ll sip some butter beer as you’re sorted into your wizard House, make your own wand, and mingle with characters from the best-selling book and movie series. You’re encouraged to getting into the spirit by dressing up as your favorite character.

According to the Hannibal History Museum Facebook Page, the added dates are to accommodate larger crowds expected and still practice social distancing.  "This is a fan event for a fundraiser. We will be following Hannibal's guidelines for safety. 10 people through at a time, Hand sanitizer stations, social distancing in place. We want to have a fun and safe time."

The Saturday, Dec. 5 opening date coincides with the Hannibal Jaycees Christmas Parade which steps off at 6 p.m. at the top of Broadway and follows the route past the History Museum on Main St.

On Saturday, Dec. 12 the Merry Potter experience coincides with Living Windows in Historic Downtown Hannibal. It’s a hugely popular event that draws hundreds of people downtown to see interactive displays in the windows of the stores. Living Windows happens on Dec. 12 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
