Earlier this year, Dinwiddie had announced his retirement as sheriff after two terms.
In a Facebook post, Dinwiddie announced his intention to run as a write-in candidate for reelection on November 3rd.

In the August primary, Monroe City Police officer and former Ralls County deputy Brad Stinson defeated current Chief Deputy Ronald Haught by a little over 300 votes, setting up Stinson to run unopposed in November.

In his Facebook post, Dinwiddie his decision to enter the race came after he saw, “the ugliness of politics and the nasty manner in which social media can be used by a few to further selfish motives.”
