The Quincy Riverfront Development Corporation and the Great River Economic Development Foundation have put out an official Request for Qualifications for designs for a Quincy riverfront splash pad. They are looking for design submissions from engineering and architectural groups.
Riverfront area planned for splash pad development
The specs for the splash pad include: a zero-depth pad that implements interactive features like a dumping bucket, spray nozzles, and water cannons. The surface is to be non-slip and the facility would need to be fully accessible for all. The design instructions also want safety and sustainability highlighted. Creativity will be key. Will designs incorporate Quincy style and history? Or, forge a new direction and make the layout something new and vibrant?
Riverfront splash pads are popular across the nation
Teams who have experience will have an advantage for this project as the deadline for submissions is 3 P.M. Tuesday February 17th ,and are to be sent to GREDF via email, or at their 501 Hampshire Street location. The Quincy riverfront has been a focus of development and growth for years, with several ideas being proposed. Riverfront possibilities previously mentioned were a Mississippi Riverboat dock that would provide for river cruise ship access. Also, a riverfront amphitheater has been discussed.

Other Illinois cities with riverfront splash pads are in Alton and Rock Island. The Alton, Illinois splash pad is also part of the same complex that includes a small amphitheater. In Rock Island, a larger amphitheater sits on the other side of a green space used for performance seating. Both also have nice views of nearby bridges across the Mississippi.
