One of the key elements to drawing families to a community to raise their kids in are the parks.

A few years ago the city of Brentwood Missouri asked their citizens what they would like to see in the development of a new city park that would take up 2.7 acres of land that had previously been a flood area. Not a huge park by anyone’s standards, but the designers and the Parks Dept. hit a home run.

People have been flocking to the park that opened last spring. Enough that there have been news stories on best plans for parking.

Growing up at city parks we would have swings, a slide, some type of merry go round, a jungle gym of various sizes (depending upon location and space). Bigger parks would include a basketball court, maybe tennis too. The taxpaying citizens of Brentwood wanted to level up.

They asked for a climbing wall, a waterfall, splash pad, zip lines and more. They got all those things delivered in a creative way. Incorporating those ideas into the existing topography and built in landscaping.

The Brentwood Missouri Parks Dept. understands what they have made and have leaned into it by labeling it a “destination” park for fun. So much has been packed into a limited space so well that next time you are in the St. Louis metro area for the zoo, city museum, Magic House, etc. seek out this city park experience in Brentwood for your kids and grandkids and be inspired.
