The Show-Me State has a rich tradition of being home to many highly regarded breweries throughout the years. What about root beer? Turns out Missouri does that too…!

There is history in the root beer realm in Missouri as well. I.B.C. root beer began in St. Louis in 1919. In the 21st Century I.B.C. Root beer is made and headquartered out of Frisco, Texas.
Originally made in St. Louis, IBC now comes out of Texas
Missouri is still home to a few root beer companies across the state to seek out and sample (literally east to west).
Fitz’s Root beer – St. Louis
Since 1993 when they opened in the University City suburb of St. Louis they used a local recipe from 1947. The root beer is the reason for Fitz’s, but they have expanded to other flavors or soda too.
Calvin’s 1936 Barrel Style Root beer - Hermann
In 2011 Calvin Scheidegger’s dream to recreate the root beer from his childhood came to life. Calvin’s was originally only available on tap via barrels (as is German proper). Bottles and cans followed over the years. The 1836? That’s for the founding of Hermann, Mo itself.
Pollys’ Pop – Independence
Polly’s was a Kansas City regular from 1923 to 1967. Nostalgia brought the brand back to Independence in 2016 led by the traditional root beer. Polly’s has expanded to include a variety of flavors.
