As the seasons change the activity in the animal kingdom cranks up with the warmth. In Missouri that apparently means snakes in your car.

Rat snakes are common in Missouri

I lived in Missouri for a decade. Never do I remember the state government warning of snakes getting into resident’s cars. But here we are, the Mo. Department of Conservation put out a social media statement about snakes finding a warm spot under your car’s hood.

In the Central Missouri Community of Eugene, a mom had driven her son to baseball practice when a healthy sized rat snake poked his head out from under the hood, by the windshield wipers. Following an unsuccessful attempt to remove the snake from under the hood, the mom (who happens to be a teacher) drove to school where a group of teachers were able to extract snake from car.

Mo. Department of Conservation reminds you to check under your hood before you venture out to make sure snakes aren’t stow aways. They are attracted to the warm dark places within your vehicle as they are cold blooded and utilize what is around them to regulate their body temperature.
