Attention Missouri Birders! Audubon Society Needs Your Help
As the seasons change the birds in the area continue to migrate and settle in for winter. The Missouri Department of Conservation has put out the call to you Missouri bird enthusiasts and “citizen scientists” (their words not mine) to help with the National Audubon Society’s 125th Christmas Bird Count.
Volunteers across North America on a preset day will go out to a designated area, and over a twenty-four hour period tally up the birds seen. The Missouri Depart of Conservation explains that the info collected is important data on the big picture bird status on species and macro trends.
A count coordinator will be assigning segments of a fifteen mile area so that participants can count up all the birds they see over that twenty four hour window.
Should you be a birder in Missouri and want to help with the count, contact the Audubon Society about the Christmas Bird Count 2024.
