Wait—Is There Someone Living in Chicago’s Bean?
Cloud gate – better known as the Bean in Chicago’s Millennium Park is a big pull for tourists and social media pics. But, does someone live there?
Is there a man in the bean?
By “live there” I mean -inside- the bean. Seems unlikely, but there’s a group that says they believe there is a man living inside the bean, and that he needs to be let out. (???)
The "Man in Bean Coalition" have gone viral
The group is called the “Man in Bean Coalition” and say that the Cloud Gate sculptor Anish Kapoor placed a baby within the structure back in 2004. –So, I guess the group is under the impression that the 2004 baby has grown into adulthood over the last twenty years? They also say that the man doesn’t speak, but that when the sun hits the bean just right you can see him inside……(???)

The group gathers in the park and chants for “the man’s” release. They have contacted the alderman for the 42nd ward for help, but 42nd ward alderman Brendan Reilly sees the group as a nuisance. They say Reilly has been compromised by “Big Bean Media”….(???)
If there were a living space in the Bean, wouldn't it be a pricey AirBNB?
Meanwhile, the people visiting Millennium Park aren’t sure how to take the group. Performance art? Maybe. Funny? Serious? If they really thought there was a person trapped inside the bean, wouldn’t they try to break it to free that person? That would certainly bring property damage charges from the city. Is that too much of a price to pay for a human life trapped inside a tourist attraction?
