I really should have paid more attention in geology class. Wait. I mean I should have taken a geology class. The reason I say that is someone found a gorgeous purple sparkly rock in a Missouri mine and I'm still not exactly sure what it is.

Go ahead and laugh at my lack of rock knowledge. It's not for a lack of trying. Look at this gorgeous specimen someone just found in the Fletcher Mine near Reynolds, Missouri.

From what I can tell, this is a person who sells rocks like this on Etsy. Here's their description for what this is:

Color with sparkle! Great crystal coverage of Chalcopyrite with Dolomite, Fletcher mine, Reynolds Co., Missouri, USA 5 inch across by 3 by 2 inches deep. 13.0 x 7.5 x 4.5 cm (cabinet). Stands on a sawn bottom. Weight: 1 pound 6.2 ounce.

I turned to Wikipedia to try and educate myself and found this for Chalcopyrite:

Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide mineral and the most abundant copper ore mineral. It has the chemical formula CuFeS2 and crystallizes in the tetragonal system. It has a brassy to golden yellow color and a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale.

I'm still just as dumb as I was as I started this article so back to my original description. Enjoy seeing this really pretty sparkly rock thing someone found in a Missouri mine.
