Concert night is coming up on August 1 at the Adams County Fair in Mendon. The Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd will open for up-and-coming country music star Eric Paslay, who has already achieved three No. 1 hits as a songwriter, and has charted three Top 20 songs as a performer.

Paslay tells KICK-FM that he began writing songs at the age of 15. "Someone had said that songs are like poems, and I had written a poem for a girl and didn't have the guts to give it to her. That's kind of where it all started."

As a songwriter, Paslay's credits include Barefoot Blue Jean Night, Rewind and Even if It Breaks Your Heart, hits for Jake Owen, Rascal Flatts and the Eli Young Band, respectively. Love and Theft's Angel Eyes is another song with an Eric Paslay songwriting credit, as is Steven Tyler's debut country song, Love is Your Name.

"I actually signed a record deal before I ever had a major song recorded," said Paslay. "I signed my record deal and then Jake (Owen) put out 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night," so on my first radio tour - getting to meet everybody, playing my first song - everywhere I went it was like, 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night is climbing up the chart!' so it was awesome. It's just really cool to get to record my own stuff and kind of see the journey, and realize it all kind of happens for a cool reason. I'm glad to be known as a songwriter, first, because I get to play all these extra songs."

Paslay says that he is hard at work on his second album. His self-titled debut album was a Top 5 success on the Top Country Albums Chart.

Eric Paslay's concert at the Adams County Fair will follow Craig Wayne Boyd's 7:30 performance. Paslay should be on stage around 9 p.m. General admission tickets ($10) will get fairgoers free grandstand seats. Track seats for the concert are available for an additional $10. Track tickets are on sale in advance at Quincy's Farm & Home Supply store.
