Missouri Town Most Likely to Have a White Christmas? This One
I've heard many romanticize about having a white Christmas. My guess is most of those don't have the responsibility of having to shovel driveways, but it's just my theory. What Missouri town is most likely to get their wish this Christmas and have snow covering the ground? #1 has it happen almost 1 in 3 times.
I had a researcher/content person reach out by email and alert me that Climate.gov has some science to determine which Missouri place is most likely to have snow on the ground for Christmas. It's based on nearly 30 years of data from 1991 to 2020.
With all those numbers crunched, what do the meteorologists consider Missouri's most likely place to look like a Norman Rockwell Christmas painting?
The data says Unionville, Missouri with a population of less than 2,000 is most likely to have a white Christmas as it happens there 32% of the time over the last 3 decades. Downing, Brookfield, Milan and Conception, Missouri round out the top 5.
Now, let's all sing along...
One other interesting aspect of this survey is that the big metros of Kansas City and St. Louis apparently only have a white Christmas about 1 out of every 5 years. Bummer.
I don't want to rain on everyone's Christmas parade, but the National Weather Service is now predicting a warmer than usual December. That might make a white Christmas a topic for holiday songs, but not Missouri reality. Time will tell.
