The Missouri State Highway Patrol wants you to have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend. Ahead of that holiday though, they've issued some warnings and a reminder of the dire situation they faced last year with many unnecessary accidents and fatalities.

This week, the Missouri State Highway Patrol shared a reminder about what the prior Memorial Day Weekend was like. Here are the statistics from Memorial Day Weekend in Missouri from last year:

13 people died and 403 were injured in 990 traffic crashes

The problem in Missouri isn't only on the roads. The Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial beginning of the boating season and least year there were no less than 10 boating crashes during that holiday weekend.

There were multitudes of boating accidents in Missouri over the previous Memorial Day Weekend, too.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol also says the problems on the roads and water last Memorial Day Weekend saw "troopers made 137 driving while intoxicated and eight boating while intoxicated arrests". They advise the everyone check the Missouri road conditions and say something if they see something wrong. They say that anyone can call their Highway Patrol's Emergency Assistance number 1-800-525-5555 (or *55 on a cellular phone).

The hope is that this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend in Missouri will be safer than the previous ones.
