"Do you know how fast you were going back there?" says the officer. "Ope! Was it too fast for you, officer?" says the Wisconsin native. "Yep, here's your $800 ticket" says the officer. That is a somewhat common conversation in Wisconsin which is why the state has just been declared one of the most notorious when it comes to handing out speeding tickets.

This recent ranking for states that issue the most speeding tickets comes from Rate Genius and Wisconsin comes in at a quite spectacular #5. They note the following statute from the state of Wisconsin which says the following:

"No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing. The speed of a vehicle shall be so controlled as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any object, person, vehicle or other conveyance on or entering the highway in compliance with legal requirements and using due care."

There are some big words in there, Mr. Wisconsin senator.

When's the last time reasonable and prudent were words that came to mind when you were driving down I-94? Not often if ever would be the most honest answer.

While it might seem like it, I'm not trying to make light of speeding. I was in a high-speed accident that fractured my skull when I was a teenager after another driver pulled out in front of me. Amazingly, I was not at fault and fortunately the other driver wasn't injured at all. I don't wish accidents like this on my worst enemy. Seriously.

I just find it ironic that of all the things Wisconsin is known for, giving out speeding tickets is quickly being added to the list.
