See the Prettiest Missouri Cave You’re Not Allowed to Enter
Missouri has a lot of caves and many can be explored. However, there is one that is very pretty and is full of history that you're not allowed to go inside of.
Graham Cave State Park in Danville, Missouri is an interesting place. If you're not familiar with Danville, it's just west of the St. Louis area. Only In Your State shared a nice article about this Missouri cave destination recently.
Graham Cave is a dolomite sandstone cave where it's believed humans lived thousands of years ago. That's one of the reasons why you can hike up to it, but not inside it. The hike alone is worth the trip as it goes by waterfalls. Waterfalls are awesome even without caves.
The official Graham Cave State Park website mentions that the area includes 386 scenic acres and they're not kidding. There's not a bad view inside of that park. Trails everywhere.
According to All Trails, the hikes in Graham Cave State Park are among the top 20 in the entire state. The Indian Glade Loop is the one that takes you to the front of Graham Cave.
The cave itself is fenced off to preserve the geology inside. Considering some of the vandalism that's happened to other caves like this in Missouri, that's understandable. It's unfortunate there isn't a way to allow guides to take small groups inside. Oh, well. Thanks to vandals, we can't have nice things.
