Kids Snacks in Missouri & Illinois Recalled Due to Dangerous Lead
Of all the product recalls, the worst are those that affect children. That's sadly true of an urgent product recall of a children's snack available in both Missouri and Illinois that reportedly has dangerously elevated levels of lead.
The FDA just recently issued this bulletin that will make it necessary to check your kids lunchboxes to make sure they don't have one of the affected products. The snack is WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée pouches that look like this.
The affected snacks are part of 3-pack pouches of 2.5 oz Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée.
Unfortunately, the FDA bulletin says that there are 4 reports of illnesses associated with these fruit snacks. All 4 as of this writing have been in North Carolina, but the snacks are available nationally in pretty much every state.
The FDA bulletin says that dangerously elevated levels of lead have been discovered in specific batch numbers. They say that if you believe your children have consumed this snack recently, you should contact your healthcare provider and request a blood lead test.
The alert says that most children will not have any immediate signs of lead poisoning, but may have headaches, nausea and/or vomiting. The long-term damage can be profound if not detected and treated.
