27 Illinois Hospitals Given Perfect A Grades for Patient Safety

There are few things in life more valuable than a hospital that has doctors and nurses you can trust. That's why it's tremendous news that 27 Illinois medical facilities were just given a perfect A grade for their treatment of patients.

I am probably the least qualified person to talk about A grades. When I was in school, those kind of grades were as mythical as Bigfoot. Fortunately, you don't have to rely on my (lack of) expertise as Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade just released their new Spring ratings for Illinois hospitals.

How did they figure out what Illinois hospitals are safe?

The grades are based on errors, injuries, infections and accidents. They also consult an expert panel including physicians from institutions like Harvard to give them guidance. They haven't released the full Illinois state list yet, so I had to check individual cities like Chicago, Rockford, Springfield and Quincy for the new ratings. It's very possible other hospitals in Illinois will get added to this list once it's complete.

One word of caution. The decision on what hospital you'll trust your care to is an important one and should never be based off of one internet list. This is best used as a reference point to start your research into what Illinois medical facilities you trust and which ones you don't.
