Hurricane-Force Winds Confirmed at St. Louis, Missouri Airport

As storms moved through Missouri this weekend, the St. Louis airport has officially confirmed that hurricane-force winds were recorded there.

The National Weather Service mentioned in their daily weather story today that there were widespread reports of wind damage around Missouri on Saturday, July 29 with several locations seeing greater than 75 mph gusts. Notice that in their graphic, the Lambert St. Louis International Airport reported a wind gust of 79 mph.

As NOAA mentions, hurricane-force winds are considered to be any sustained wind speed of 74 mph or higher.

This time-lapse video captured in Maryville, Missouri shows the storms as they moved through the area.

There was also quite a lightning show that was on display during the overnight hours from Saturday into Sunday around the middle part of Missouri.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of thunderstorms again in Missouri during the middle of the week. At this point, none are necessarily expected to be severe, but since this is Missouri we're talking about, anything is possible when it comes to storms.
