It's no secret that Wisconsin takes its food preferences seriously and that's normally a very good thing. But, did you know there are many foods that are banned in the state and you can get busted for eating them?

This rabbit trail of Wisconsin food no-no's was inspired by a question asked on the Madison, Wisconsin sub-Reddit. The question involved haggis and whether it was obtainable in Wisconsin. The answers came raining in from commenters who pointed out that haggis has been banned in the United States since 1971. You cannot have any food that contains sheep lungs. Sorry to those of Scottish descent.

Haggis is just one of the foods you can get busted for in Wisconsin. Culture Trip says shark fins are also a no-no. That means if you've ever watched Jaws and thought "now, I shall get my revenge", put the fork down now.

Also don't plan on having friends over for a pufferfish BBQ as that is highly illegal. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to go to prison as a pufferfish offender. Don't ask me how I know.

There is a tricky one you need to be aware of. It's true that Ackee fruit is illegal in Wisconsin, but only the fresh fruit version because of high levels of Hypoglycin A and B according to Culture Trip. I've seen some comment that you can find non-fresh canned versions, but that seems to be a lot of effort to put out just to get fruit.
